Girly Spa Day – Calcot Spa

Calcot Spa | Calcot Manor

‘Calcot and Calcot Spa is located in the Cotswolds amidst 220 acres of classic Cotswold countryside.’

As mine and one of my best friends birthdays fall within the same week, we decided to plan a girly spa day together for when we both get back from our celebrations. We had been looking around for some spas near to us that we thought would give us the wow factor. We decided on Calcot Spa and purchased their ‘Tailored Day Spa Package’ at a price of £185pp this was to include the following

  • All day spa access (9:30am – 5:00pm)
  • Full use of the facilities
  • Complimentary tea or coffee on arrival
  • A two-course lunch in the spa
  • Two hours’ worth of treatment time on any treatment of your choice (55 minutes)

During the aromatherapy massage the therapist gives you 2 oils to smell for you to decide which one suits you best.

‘Calcot Spa is situated in a quiet corner of Calcot Manor’s grounds in the Cotswolds. The beautifully designed spa is flooded with natural light and the neutral artwork and furnishings reflect the surrounding countryside. Dip into the outdoor hydrotherapy pool, swim lengths in the 16-metre indoor pool or just relax in the thermal experience area. There are also plenty of fitness options, whether you want to spend a couple of hours in the gym, or walk around the countryside trail track.’

As soon as we got there, we were greeted by staff who took us to our table, there waiting for us were our bags with our robes and slippers in. We had a selection of tea or coffee and were also given some forms to complete, the general health question list and the menu for our 2-course lunch. We had a choice between the soup and a main course or a main course or a dessert. We, of course, went for the dessert ;). It would have been good to have more variety on the menu, I understand we were in somewhere posh but who doesn’t love a good burger? *rolls eyes*

After our tour around the spa, we went and got changed ready for our first treatment. We all chose to have a massage and a facial, the massage being first. I opted for the ‘Garden of English Rose Restore’ message which described as ‘Take a walk in an English rose garden with this lavishly hydrating body massage and micro-wrap. The unique trio of Rose, Camelina and Poppy seed oils maintain and restore elasticity, whilst encouraging skin renewal. The skin is anointed with nourishing oils whilst a nurturing Rose balm and bespoke massage comfort the skin and ground the spirit. Skin is left exquisitely moisturised, intensely supple and deliciously scented.’

When filling out the sheets they asked you questions such as what sort of music would you like and if you’d like the therapist to talk to you during treatments. This we thought was good service! The therapist who completed my massage was friendly and attentive. I fell asleep during mine!  After, we thought we would go and make use of the spa facilities, they had an outside hot tub with an open log fire and they brought our Kir Royales out at our requested time.

Straight after that, we went and had our lunch. I had the Heritage tomato, mozzarella and pesto salad. It did taste lovely though and was very refreshing! Fallon and Hayley had the Brie and Brioche. We had a bottle of Pinot with this too. We ordered 3 different desserts and shared by rotation, we had a chocolate brownie, vanilla panna cotta and the Bakewell tart. All of the desserts were incredible! When we went in for our lunch we were told to leave the table we sat on in the morning and move to another table which was shared with other visitors. Slightly annoying as the other table was free until we actually finished lunch.

After lunch we went for our second treatment, this was our facials. I went for one of the Elemis BIOTEC facials, I chose the radiance renew facial as I felt it suited my skin more than the others.

‘A powerful antidote for dull and tired skin, this cellular-boosting treatment targets sluggish complexions. The ultrasonic peel pumps vibrational energy into the skin to exfoliate and stimulates the removal of impurities and dead skin cells, while the Galvanic rejuvenating current harnesses the power of Elderberry & Orange flower extracts to restore moisture and vitality. Skin is left profoundly reinvigorated. Instantly clearer, visibly brighter and radiant.’

I fell asleep during this also, it was very relaxing. The therapist said that she exfoliated my skin using little exfoliation vibrations which I believe she said it gives off 27,000 volts a minute. This was then followed by all elemis ginseng products such as the toner. I then had a peel mask, she said my skin is dehydrated so she put more products such as the illuminating balm to brighten my complexion.

Overall, we had a good day spent together, but we wouldn’t pay the price for what we received again. Maybe just for the treatments next time. We thought the facials was the best part of the day, it all seemed very rushed and some of the staff could have been a bit more polite and welcoming. When sitting in the upstairs relaxation room we were only having a whispering conversation when a member of staff came over to us and rudely told us to be quiet. She didn’t tell the 2 older women who were on the other side of the room to be quiet though and the noise was coming from them! On the other hand, our therapists were amazing. If you’re thinking of going, just go for a treatment instead or try to book on a quieter day!

EDIT: I have since been in contact with the manager of Calcot Spa who resolved our complaints very quickly and efficiently! Very good customer service.
